Some people describe that the old ROC government was reborn and re-invented in Taiwan, and our current government is a fusion of the ROC and institutions from Taiwan’s Japanese colonial era.
So in conclusion, Taiwan is an independent nation which carries the legacy of republican China. I would say that Taiwan is somewhere in the middle between a regional independence movement (Scotland; Catalonia) and a two-state rivalry (North & South Korea; East & West Germany).
Secretary Pompeo recently said that Taiwan shows the world what a “free China” could achieve. In a way that’s true, Taiwan carries the legacy of a Free China. Taiwan might carry the hopes of many in the global Chinese-speaking community. But Taiwan is not just a free version of China, since Taiwan also has its own trajectory and uniqueness, including our Japanese colonial history. This duality (of the ROC and Taiwan) is the key to understanding Taiwan.
::
I view Matsu as an important border area that is very close to China, and a place where many important issues need to be addressed, including the environment, disease control, maritime resources and security. I think it would be a mistake for any political party to neglect this region, which was why I decided to run for office here in Matsu, and launch a county chapter here.
I think the rise in votes for President Tsai and the DPP in Matsu is symbolic, as the DPP is the party that supports Taiwan’s sovereignty and democracy, and our party tends to be more cautious of interactions with the Communist Party.
By building a party chapter here, it symbolizes the DPP’s effort to reach out beyond our traditional voter base. Some people often assume that since the outlying islands are culturally and historically connected with Fujian Province, then the voters here will not be critical towards the communist party. But what we are seeing in the younger generation here is that, people can be simultaneously proud of their Fujian heritage, AND stand adamantly against authoritarianism.
The Communist Party tries to tell the world that, if a person identifies with Chinese culture, then they must support the Communist Party. That’s the traditional logic, but that’s a logic that merits criticism. They’re trying to link the two together. What we are trying to do is to break that link. We see a growing number of people that identify with Chinese culture, AND simultaneously stand against China annexing Taiwan.
I think this speaks to a wider audience in the Chinese-speaking world on a global scale. The traditional argument to support Taiwan’s sovereignty would be to emphasize Taiwan’s cultural differences with China. Here in Matsu or Kinmen, we can develop an argument that supports Taiwan’s sovereignty that is not based on cultural identity, but rather on common values between Taiwan and Kinmen or Matsu, and anti-communism. This builds a coalition between traditional supporters of Taiwanese independence, and people in the pan-Chinese world that are pro-democratic and anti-communist. This actually includes many people in the main island Taiwan and the outlying islands, as well as overseas ethnic Chinese.
You will also notice President Tsai places an emphasis on maintaining sovereignty & democracy, regardless of support for an ROC identity or a separate Taiwan identity. So the DPP itself is also reaching out. That’s the dualism of ROC and Taiwan identity.

The Significance of Learner Errors.
Not all errors are equal.
(1) Collect samples of learner language
(2) Identify the errors
(3) Describe and explain the errors
(4) Evaluate / correct the errors
Type 1️⃣: Errors of Overproduction
Type 2️⃣: L1 Transfer (對於母語對外語的影響,比較先進的說法是 cross-linguistic influence)
I'm easy to get lost while driving in a big city. 。。)
I get lost easily while driving in a big city.
The knowledge I learned from him is very useful.
Type 3️⃣: Developmental Errors (發展型錯誤)
小明學了 Where is the restroom? Can you tell me where is the restroom? 還是 Can you tell me where the restroom is?
Type 4️⃣: Inherent difficulty / complexity (語言本身複雜性)
• He went to University of Pennsylvania.
He went to the University of Pennsylvania.)
Type 5️⃣: Overgeneralization (過度類化)
• *We should emphasize on... (將 put emphasis on 的 on 誤送給動詞)
• *We really need to cost down. (來自於 We need to bring the cost down.
Type 6️⃣: Oversimplification (過度簡化)
*He didn't wear mask today.
• I suggested him to go to see a doctor immediately.
• He didn't reply my email.
應該是 reply to...
➠ 知名語言學家 Ringbom 在 2007 年一篇 paper 裡也提及: "...we need to know enough about learning before we start making assumptions on the efficiency of teaching."

(English writing below)

Situation 1:
"Teacher Lee, I want to learn your strictness and apply it on my child at home."
"Teacher, what strictness are you referring to?"
"The way you emphasize courtesy in the students!"
.
Situation 2:
"Teacher Lee, your students are so conscientious. Most of them brought the props needed for their Show & Tell, unlike my class!"
"Teacher, quite a few students told their parents they find me fierce."
"There are advantages to being fierce!"
.
When I was an undergrad, I gave tuition to pay my uni fees. While as a stewardess, I tutored some underprivileged children for free. After landing for good, I worked as a relief teacher in primary schools.
During my entrepreneurial days, I continued lending a helping hand and tutored impoverished students at no fee.
Now as a Chinese Metaphysics practitioner, I am still teaching young children part-time in a Chinese language school.
Education is a big part of my life. If I am not imparting wisdom to my adult clients, I am nurturing the future masters of our country.
I deeply enjoy what I do and never tire of it.
Both adults and children say that I am stern.
I say, "To teach without severity, is the teacher's laziness.
Both adults and children say I am particular about manners.
I often tell my students, "No matter how smart you are, no matter how many As you scored, intelligence without good manners is useless. In my eyes, you still do not make the cut."
The same applies to adults.
I insist...
That every child who walks into my classroom should greet the teacher first, and not swagger in and throw the school bag on the floor.
That the child should be neat and orderly when handing in their exercise books, and not be unruly, as if they are rushing to offer the first incense at Guan Yin temple.
That the child should look at the teacher in the eyes when saying a "Thank You".
I was born with big eyes and a cool face. A glance from me is often enough to send "shivers" to the children, and some adults...
(Protest... many fellow teachers say my teaching mannerism is rather gentle...)
Actually being "strict" in these ways form only the very basic of Teacher-Pupil etiquette.
A pity that many parents and teachers are always rushing to fulfill the many roles in their own lives, this aspect of education has been neglected. They use the academic performance of a child as the only yardstick of their success as a parent/teacher.
As a result of my emphasis on a child's etiquette, I am regarded as a strict teacher.
Showing respect to Teacher Lee is not because the teacher is arrogant and demands respect.
Good manners is an extension of one's love for another life - to protect all lives and not hurt others. Being courteous also forms the basis of humility and equanimity.
Treating others with sincerity and etiquette is a virtuous act, and a great opportunity to cultivate merits of fortune everyday.
Willing your wealth to your children does not mean the inheritance can last forever.
Giving the best modern education to your child does not guarantee that he will live and eat well, and be happy.
Inculcating the child with the right values will infuse virtues and wisdom in him. He will be assisted by benefactors and be respected by devas and ghosts , averting misfortunes in his life.
But I must say, the parents must match their words with actions, failing which the child will not learn.
I chose to teach Mandarin not just to improve the oratory and literacy skills of the children, but also to progpoagate the moral teachings of our Chinese culture into their little minds.
This spirit is not found in the English language.
I am a nobody. I am still learning everyday.
However, my small role as a "strict teacher" can still contribute to the peace and prosperity of my motherland and build the next generations of pillars for the country.
I also see it as sharing weal and woe with my fellow countrymen, who are busy parents. 😁
My dear readers, do you agree with me?

2018 New York International Auto Show
Corolla Hatchback has flair extraordinaire. With a theme of Shooting Robust, along with a design goal of Agile, influencing their every pen stroke, designers created a form that is simultaneously distinct, dynamic, muscular, and sophisticated. Shooting references the design’s sport coupe traits implemented in all facets.
With those concepts in mind, Corolla Hatchback is a meticulously mixed cocktail of emotive lines, creases, and surfaces. It’s lower (by 1.0 in.), wider (by 1.2 in.), and longer (by 1.5 in.) than its predecessor, Corolla iM. It also has wider front and rear tracks, and a longer wheelbase.
Its hood sits two inches lower than before, affording passengers excellent forward visibility. The new frontal styling with a rounded nose and trapezoidal-shaped under grille is a further evolution of Toyota’s Under Priority Catamaran and Keen Look design philosophies, both of which emphasize Corolla Hatchback’s increased width.
Slim, J-shaped Bi-Beam LED headlamps wrap deep into the front fenders and accent the front in both stylishness and precise illumination. Front overhang has been cut by 0.8 inches; at the rear, it’s 0.8 inches longer. Chiseled character lines at its profile link both ends’ protruding flanks making for an active, well-planted expression that is uncommon amongst its peers. Wheel sizes range from 16-inches to 18-inches in diameter.
Its new rear style articulates Corolla Hatchback’s overarching emphasis on athletic presence. The relationship between front and rear design is closely aligned given the rear’s more rounded physique that encompasses simple, condensed, yet powerful, three-dimensional landscapes. Its hatch – now made from TSOP (Toyota Super Olefin Polymer) and ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) – is not only lightweight to aid fuel efficiency, it is set at a steeper angle (moved 14 degrees forward) for that ultimate sporty look. The rear all-LED taillamps feature a diffusing inner lens designed to highlight the hatchback’s stout stance. And the rear bumper styling echoes the frontal Under Priority Catamaran design with its thin lower lip and chrome diffuser.
Differentiation between SE and XSE is distinct. Both grades receive LED headlamps and taillights, chrome rear diffuser, and alloy wheels. XSE ups the ante with 18-inch wheels, LED fog lights, chrome front grille surround, and an available innovative Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS). AFS – available only on XSE CVT – allows for the focused distribution of light in an area that matches the vehicle’s speed and steering angle. The Bi-Beam LED units move vertically and horizontally to provide optimal light output by analyzing steering angle, vehicle speed, and the vehicle’s longitudinal axes angle to adjust lamps.
Corolla Hatchback’s color range includes the new-for-2019 color Rival Blue, as well as Blizzard Pearl, Silver Metallic, Midnight Black, Galactic Aqua Mica, Scarlet, and Oxide Bronze.
PRELIMINARY EXTERIOR DIMENSIONS (vs. MY2018) [difference]
Wheelbase 103.9 in. (102.4) [+1.5 in.]
Overall Length 172.0 in. (170.5) [+1.5 in.]
Overall Width 70.5 in. (69.3) [+1.2 in.]
Overall Height 56.6 in. (57.5) [-1.0 in.]

NEW YORK, March 23, 2018 – Talk about going big in the Big Apple! For the first time in North America, Toyota’s newest, stylish, and most technologically-advanced small car, the all-new 2019 Corolla Hatchback, makes its debut at the New York International Auto Show.
Don’t let its diminutive dimensions fool you – the hatchback, in either SE or XSE grades, is all about making a huge impression. With its lengthy list of standard features that includes Entune 3.0 with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa Connectivity; a revised sport-tuned suspension and new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform; and the first North American application of Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, Corolla Hatchback strikes a resounding chord with drivers who value authenticity, utility, practicality, and style.
Hot hatch? More like Haute Hatch.
Indomitable Style
